We bring back a classic recipe that never goes out of style: homemade chocolate mousse. This French dessert is known for its airy texture and rich chocolate flavor, making it the perfect choice to end any meal or indulge in a special moment.
Ingredients (4 servings)
- 200 g dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
- 50 g butter
- 3 medium eggs
- 50 g sugar
- Zest of half an orange (optional)
Preparation
- Melt the chocolate: Chop the chocolate and place it in a heatproof bowl along with the butter. Melt over a double boiler or in the microwave in short intervals, stirring until smooth.
- Add the yolks: Let the chocolate mixture cool slightly, then add the egg yolks one by one, mixing well. If you want a citrus touch, stir in the orange zest at this stage.
- Whip the egg whites: In another bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add the sugar and continue beating until you achieve a firm, glossy meringue.
- Incorporate the whites: Fold one-third of the meringue into the chocolate mixture vigorously to lighten it. Then, gently fold in the remaining meringue in two additions using smooth, circular motions to maintain the mousse’s airy texture.
- Refrigerate: Divide the mousse into individual serving dishes and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
- Serve: Before serving, garnish with chocolate shavings, fresh berries, or a sprinkle of orange zest for an elegant touch.
Chocolate mousse is a versatile dessert that, with just a few basic ingredients and an easy process, delivers a smooth texture and intense flavor that everyone will love.
